My all time favorite combination for fishing the Lower Shoshone is the Brown Conehead Bugger with the soft hackle sow bug trailing 18 inches behind.  When fish are aggressive fish it with a long strip and a pause.  Give it a long continuous pull at the end of the retrieve with the rod tip. Look for the fish at your feet.  When the fish are down deep, dead drift the combo with occasional 6 inch strips.  Eighty percent of the fish will come on the sow bug.

At Newton Lake, my favorite sight fishing combination has been the zebra midge with a scud as a trailer 18 inches back.  the midge is used mainly as weight, but the fish will take both flys.  Present the fly 3 to 4 feet in front of the fish.  When the fish approaches the fly and stops count --1000 and set the hook!  Fish with 5X flouro-carbon and hang on!
